Ant Learning Party! Many Pictures

Today was the wrap up to our learning more ideas about ants in the classroom, although I am sure more learning will continue now that your child is a budding ant scientist!  During the day we shared projects with 5th grade buddies, kindergarten, first, third, and fourth grade students!  Finally, parents and family had the chance to visit the room and learn more about ants.  Enjoy pictures from the day!  See you tomorrow...

Hello again!

Yesterday the ant scientists completed a bit more research regarding the following question:  Why does the world need ants? (thanks Zach for being the first one to ask the question!)  First the students read and discussed the topic, then they presented to the class their idea.  While they presented, we created a visual flowchart to show and connect our ideas:

Today the student created posters to reflect their learning about the importance of ants.
The young mathematicians also had time fore partner games using adding and subtracting.

Finally, we had an all school assembly today where our class sang the "number songs" we have been learning during math.  These songs are a way to begin skip counting, the foundation of multiplication.  Ask your child to sing one to you!  Teacher Julie took pictures and videos - when she sends them, I'll get it posted on the blog!

Hi everyone!

Last week we continued our work learning more ideas about ants.  We created a poster together describing the most common ant predators.

 Later that day we were we fortunate to meet with the green team who told us more ideas about composting - did you know that as decomposers, ants are an important part of the composting process?

This morning we began our day with textural straight line art:

Today the students research different species of ants and then created a poster to teach others about what they learned... here are just a few.  We had a busy day of learning - see you tomorrow!
