Wednesday, February 10th

Happy Chinese New Year!  This week, we learned all about the traditions and legends surrounding Chinese New Year.  We made paper lanterns, created our own dragon masks, read lots of books, and even had Panda Express come in to teach us how to use chopsticks!

We are quickly wrapping up our unit on nutrition!  Yesterday we learned about the fruit group and made homemade applesauce.  Here are some pictures from the day.  Enjoy!

Tuesday February 2 - Groundhog day!

Hi everyone!
Today as part of our nutrition unit, we learned more about vegetables and how important they are to our bodies for vitamins and other nutrients.  Here is the research poster we created:

Then we had a chance to explore vegetables through making and tasting - we made salsa.  The taste test verdict - YUM (and pretty healthy!)  See you tomorrow!

This week we are continuing our unit on nutrition.  Your second graders were introduced to the Meat and Beans group yesterday and did some research on all the great things it does for our bodies!

Here are some thoughts from the day:
"I learned that eggs are in the meat group." -Ana
"More than just meat is in the meat group, like fish and beans and seeds." -Zoe
"Natalie lent us a book." -Ruby and Grace
"Sophia offerred to play with me at recess." -Lucia

Tuesday January 26 - Franz Bakery Trip!

Hi everyone!
Today we visited Franz Bread Factory!  We couldn't take pictures from the factory floor, but here are some from the learning room - we had a great time grinding wheat, learning more about the factory and trying some BREAD!  Great time all around - thanks to all of the parents who drove and helped us for this trip!  Enjoy the pictures!

Tuesday, January 19th

This week we are starting our unit on grains!  We will be learning about how this important food group helps our bodies.  We also read a book about the life of Rev. Martin Luther King.  Here are some thoughts from the day:
