The last day of school - June 11, 2015

Hello everyone, here with the final blog post of the 2014-2015 school year!

Our day started with a MASSIVE book clean up.  The students helped clean, organize, and then count all of the books in the room.  The final total of the books: 2,049!  Yes, you read that correctly - 28 children, one teacher, and 2,049 books all in one room!  This is why I always told the children - "Never tell me you cannot find something to read!"  :)

We took time to discuss the ideas we had learned or experiences we enjoyed this year - here is what the students shared:

“I liked learning more about my animal.” Peter
“I liked learning about ants.” Mia
“I liked the bread factory because the bread was good!” Asa
“I liked the abstract tree art project” Sydney
“All of the nature field trips were great!” Kelley
“Making the animal reports” Bernadette
“All of the field trips.” Everett
“I enjoyed having such a nice teacher.” Kaden
“I liked the animal report.” Zach
“I liked writing my animal report” Owen
“I liked going to the ancient forest” Jenner
“I liked going to Oxbow Park and seeing the newts and tasting the sourgrass.” Maddie
“I liked learning about habitats” Sophie Jane
“ I liked learning how to play instruments with Mr. Weiner.” Ayana
“I liked making animal masks!” Emily
“I enjoyed learning more about ants.” Elisabeth
“I liked designing a habitat project every week.” Brooke
“I liked learning about tornadoes” Calvin
“I also enjoyed designing my own habitat projects.” Cash
“I liked all of the art projects.” Thomas
“I liked the animal reports” Henry
“I liked seeing the nest of ospreys at Oxbow park.” Noel
“I  liked learning about habitats and making the habitat projects and showing them to our fifth grade buddies.” Audrey
“ I liked the animal reports because I learned so much about the spider monkey.” ZyZY
“I liked making the habitat projects with Kaden.” Finnian
“I liked the animal reports” Jackson
“Blobfish are cool.” Louie

(We have been busy this year!)

Later in the morning, we enjoyed a gift from the second grade teachers - a magic show from Bob Eaton.  From what I can see the children were pretty amazed at the magic.  Here are a few pictures:

Later in the day, we enjoyed a showing of Meet the Robinsons - a lovely movie about the power of science, learning, family and love.

When the end credits roll, we see the following quote:

"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long.  We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we are curious...and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."  Walt Disney

I wish to leave you with this thought - that life is a journey, and in life we keep growing and changing, we keep moving forward - looking ahead to a world of infinite possibilities.

Thank you for a wonderful year...stop by and see me sometime.
Keep moving forward!

Second Grade Project Exhibition!

Hi everyone!  We began the day with art and a game- a - thon, where everyone was able to share their favorite games with others.  Teaching and learning with each other - that's what it's all about!

Our day ended with a re-creation of an Amazon Rainforest habitat - just kidding!  But the gym WAS very hot!!!  Thanks for coming to see all of the amazing work and learning the scientists have been engaged in over the past 6 weeks.  Enjoy the pictures and see you tomorrow!
