Wednesday May 28

Hi again!
Today our learning kept us very busy.  We engaged in individual literacy work, solved student written story problems, and created our own ocean projects with reading and writing.  We also were fortunate to watch the third grade student perform The Portland was great!  I hope some of you get to see the performance tonight!

(By the way, 28 is a composite number with three different rectangles...ask your child what the dimensions of the rectangles are!)

See  you tomorrow!

Tuesday May 27

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Today we began our study of the ocean ecosystem by reading information and reporting what we found out about the ocean.  We will be creating our projects over the next few days.

We also finished our Toy Store story problems which involve money and groups of items above 100, so we "shopped" for story problems to solve. We walked around and chose the problems that looked interesting or challenging for each person.  We will spend another day solving problems, then we will take a look at our solutions and decide the attributes of an excellent story problem solution.

We also continue to make progress on our animal reports!  This is a busy time of year!

See you tomorrow!

A belated Happy Birthday to Layton!

Wow...we are over halfway into the month...the time has flown by.

Today we worked on individual literacy projects, wrote our own math story problems involving money and wrote more about our research animal.  We read, watched, researched information, then presented ideas about the desert biome.  Animals and plants have made some incredible adaptations to live in this environment!

Remember, late opening tomorrow!  See you at 10:45!

Thursday May 15

Everyone seemed a little quieter today- perhaps from getting tired out at Tryon Creek.  I hope that our visit helped increase each student's understanding of temperate forests.

We worked hard today on money story problems, animal report writing, and temperate forest project development.  It is hot, but we worked hard!  We also had popsicles is HOT!

Remember to wear good shoes for the Fund Run tomorrow...sunscreen would also be good.

See you tomorrow!
