April 30

The last day of April is here...according to our 200's chart, there are 32 more school days left.  Wow...the year has flown by!

Here are some thoughts from the student today...

Evan appreciated how Sami was nice when he scored a goal during soccer and Sami was glad that Evan stopped what he was doing on the playground to join him in his soccer game!

Aoife enjoyed learning new information we about the grasslands of the world!

Madeline was glad when Katie, Ave, Riley, Lainey, and Kira let her join their game at recess.

Grace thanks Peter for teaching her how to play bump at recess.

Lainey appreciates that Aoife taught her how to play Mancala during choice time.

Aoife believes Hannah is a good friend because she lets other people choose the game!

The students will be thinking about how they will share their knowledge of the grassland biome tonight and be ready for their project work tomorrow.
Have a great day!

Dear Second Grade Families,

We are excited to begin our habitat and animal unit. Each student should be thinking about and deciding upon an animal that they would like to spend the next 4-6 weeks researching and writing about. This animal needs to be specific and unique, something they do not know a lot about. Example: Blue ringed octopus, tiger shark, etc. They can choose! Also, we are encouraging bringing in materials, books, and or research done from home to enhance learning of specific animal. Today we learned about Antarctic and Arctic Polar regions.

Student Compliments:
Cole thanked Peter for sharing glue stick and materials during math fraction creating.

Della thanked friends Aoife, Catalina, and Riley for playing with her on the playground. They were thoughtful and made her feel welcome.

Peter complimented Bailey for helping share knowledge during math, and figuring out the fraction pieces.

It was a wonderful sunny day of learning! See you tomorrow!

April 16

We had a very busy day learning a little about climate and Reading Arthur's Funny Money while we practiced adding and subtracting with dollars and coins!

TOMORROW is our field trip!  Yeah!
Here is the schedule:
10:45 school begins.  Students will work quietly at seats while we go over final details.
11:10  Load up cars and go.  The students will take their cold lunches with them in your cars.
11:30-12:00 Lunch at the park.  Encourage students to eat slowly...finishing lunch faster will not make the hike begin sooner!  :)  Put lunch boxes back into cars.  Visit bathroom!

12:00-2:00 Hike and class at the park!

2:00 Load up and back to school!

Please wear appropriate clothes for hiking in the woods- sturdy shoes, long pants, layers.

Monday April 8

Hi Everyone!
We have had an extraordinary amount of volunteers offering their time and cars for this field trip.  We will only need eight parents, so not everyone can attend this time around.  I have emailed everyone who has offered with information.  On a personal note, I am consistently amazed by the outpouring of support by the parents in our room.  You are fantastic partners in your child's education. -Mrs. Robb

Please return all permission slips ASAP.

Monday, April 1st, 2013

We had a wonderful first day back! We read Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco, a story about a little girl and her grandmother caught in a thunder storm. This story also ties seamlessly into our weather unit. During math we practiced our multiplication skills and reviewed our coin values. We had an assembly at the end of the day that was filmed from the OPB network. The interactive dancing, clapping and singing from the "Al-Andalus Ensemble" taught us about middle eastern music and rhythm.
Reminders: Homework went home today to be completed by Friday. Book order forms also need to be turned in by Friday or ordered online.
See you tomorrow!
