Thursday, January 28th





Happy Thursday!

This week we are continuing our unit on nutrition.  Your second graders were introduced to the Meat and Beans group yesterday and did some research on all the great things it does for our bodies!

Here are some thoughts from the day:
"I learned that eggs are in the meat group." -Ana
"More than just meat is in the meat group, like fish and beans and seeds." -Zoe
"Natalie lent us a book." -Ruby and Grace
"Sophia offerred to play with me at recess." -Lucia
"Adina complimented me on my shirt." -Ryan

Be sure to ask your child about making peanut butter this week!

Tuesday January 26 - Franz Bakery Trip!

Hi everyone!
Today we visited Franz Bread Factory!  We couldn't take pictures from the factory floor, but here are some from the learning room - we had a great time grinding wheat, learning more about the factory and trying some BREAD!  Great time all around - thanks to all of the parents who drove and helped us for this trip!  Enjoy the pictures!

Tuesday, January 19th

This week we are starting our unit on grains!  We will be learning about how this important food group helps our bodies.  We also read a book about the life of Rev. Martin Luther King.  Here are some thoughts from the day:
"Bread can be cooked in all different shapes." -Ruby
"I read a book about how chocolate is made and where it comes from." -Aven
"I learned that bread is yummy and amazing!" -Ashe
"Ryan complimented me on my glasses." -Natalie
"Sophia made me an iPod out of paper." -Lucia

"Bread is an important part of our lives." -Sophia
"Natalie said she would make me a bracelet." -Ryan
"I learned how to make bread." -Miles

Monday January 11

Hi everyone!  Happy New Year!
Sorry this is the first post of the new year...last week was generally hectic!

For the next month or so we will be working to learn more about health and nutrition, how different food helps our bodies and why, germs, and dental health.

In mathematics, we are entering a unit on geometry; specifically the characteristics of 2-D and 3-D shapes and equivalent area.

Today we began with a wonderful art lesson led by Jen:






We focused on more geometry during math and shared our poem and story of the week.
Here are some ideas the learners shared today:
